So perhaps an announcement about the result of the consultation in late August or early September (bury bad news during the bank holiday weekend ?) and mid or late September is when we might expect last flights... ie when leisure airlines see cashflow move from positive to negative.

Likely that the end of the TUI summer season will mark the closure of the airport.

If there is not enough business for Doncaster to stay open why is "RAF Scampton to become Lincolnshire International Airport once Red Arrows move out"

Might have missed it but I've not seen any apologies to the poster who said this announcement was coming and was told they were talking bol**cks

I think you may need to look at the time and date that was published.

Can have an apology. Can also have a grade A **** that thinks he’s clever posting that the night before such gut wrenching news. Well done. Some smug twats sitting at their keyboards today isn’t there.

Considering the smugness of your earlier posts telling another user he didn’t know much it might be time for a period of self reflection.

Hopefully a cat can be pulled out the hat to help save the airport and if not at least the staff have a very in demand role which can help finding future employment (not much consolation but better than nothing).

I think the consultation is just going through the motions. The decision to close will have already been made, hence the management departures

Yawn.

No smugness from me what so ever, plenty of offence taken from people that seem to take joy in others misery though.

Similar thing was due to happen at MME but the airport was subsequently saved by Ben Houchen, Teesside Mayor.

MME has seen a decent uptick in passenger numbers of late but I suspect is also still a long way from being a commercially viable proposition.

Read this thread all day. The only person being insulting is you. To the original poster before the announcement and to the same person after.

I haven’t read any post from anyone appearing to be smug or taking joy from this pretty unpleasant news.

Be polite...costs nothing.

All day. Wow.

Some of us have been reading this thread for years and years and have to put up with posters practically praying for this day. Excuse me if I take offence to that.

Why come on a thread when it’s clear peoples emotions are high with a holier than thou condescending attitude. This is todays world sadly.

Theres only one person who has got emotional today. Others have shared news and discussed it. You got upset the information was leaked early (only after insulting others). Take a step back and reflect.

Do they actually own the land outright, or are they merely a leaseholder...?

If the latter, it will very much depend on what is detailed in the lease agreement between the actual land owner & Peel Group. If it states that they have to operate it as an airport, then they can't/won't simply be able to redevelop the land into another distribution centre without agreeing a change to the terms of the lease.

Looking at the lease documents to see permitted use is the kind of thing that even the most junior of solicitors would look at. (Mrs Johnson is a property lawyer)
Yes, it is a consideration, but it would be extraordinarily incompetent for Peel not to have extensive advice on what they can and can't do with the land if the airport is closed, and what changes can be made to a lease

I'm amazed it has lasted so long

i expect East Midlands will be the next one to go... lots of open space is at a premium in England these days and airlines aren't a terribly efficient (or profitable) use of it

Look North had Simon Calder on and unfortunately he seems to think the airport future isn’t good.
