6000 Tiger slots at SYD-crazy
6,000 Slots For Tigerair Australia At Sydney Airport - Simple FlyingThe Tigerair brand no longer exists in Virgin Australia. The administration process closed down, they don’t have any planes, they don’t have any aircrew, and they don’t have any passengers.
“The airline doesn’t exist and yet somehow or other, the next season for slots, which is from the end of March to the end of October of this year (2021), Tigerair has been allocated 6,000 slots at the (Sydney) airport.”

I don't have a horse in the race and have very little time for Rex's antics but to 'protect' slots that were held by a now defunct airline is more than questionable. And as there would appear to be the remotest possibility that they could be used by Tiger's former owners, it's even more questionable. It would be very interesting to know the rationale, if any, of Airport Co-ordination Australia - transparency goes a long way.

but it is the public service, which is always dodgy
The Original CEO, Ernst Krolke, handed the CEO job over to his daughter Petra.
Surely the APS isn't THAT dodgy?

Guessing SYD slot coordinator has done what many other international slot coordinated airports have done during Covid- suspend the IATA 80% use-it-or-lose-it rule while demand is disrupted. ie everybody just keeps what they had regardless.
yes sounds very very dodgy, but it is the public service, which is always dodgy
On the 24 March 1998, the Minister for Transport and Regional Development appointed Airports Coordination Australia as Slot Manager. Airports Coordination Australia is a company jointly owned by Qantas, Ansett, the Regional Airlines Association of Australia and Sydney Airport Corporation. The Slot Manager is advised by the Sydney Airport Coordination Committee, a consultative body who's voting membership is drawn from Australian carriers regularly using the Airport, Board of Airline Representatives of Australia, the airport owner, and the International Airline Transport Association. Representatives of the Department of Transport and Regional Development, Airservices Australia, AQIS and Customs can attend but do not have a vote.
I would hope things have changed in view of a very critical audit of Airport Coordination Australia a few years ago made by the Australian National Audit Office. The report is easy to find via Google. The slot allocation process is esoteric and 'interesting'. Airport Coordination was set up to allocate slot at certain Australian airports but they also manage slot allocation for the Philippines, Abu Dhabi and Ireland. How they acquired the Irish business I don’t know as their airports used to be managed by the UK slot coordinator - ACL. Perhaps the Australian mob out-priced the Brits! One could reasonably ask why an ACA should seek off-shore work? Unions and 'closed shops' have much to learn!

This is why I assume VAH have held onto the Tiger AOC.
Mascot Slots.
I wonder if they would operate extra flights at a loss rather than passing over to Rex. Schedule then Cancel comes to mind.

You can't just "hold on" to an AOC. Once you cease operations, there is in effect nothing for CASA to Audit, so any permissions granted will expire as they fall due.
