Whilst I don't really see a market for them should they get up and running and become known the punters paying the $$ - if the schedules right and the $$ are appealing - won't give a sh*t about the name and care even less what YOU think about the name.
Maybe the name was arrived at so people would talk - about how curious (being generous) the name is breeding memory retention, maybe publicity.

The influence a name can have on a business is massive. It is the first point of reference that customers, competitors, and employees have to understand how your company represents itself in the business world and beyond, and is an essential part of your branding.
Indeed, a well-chosen name can make a company iconic while a weak one can limit growth and keep a company from being taken seriously. It should be a source of pride for you and your employees, and evoke emotion in your customers when they hear or see it. Alongside your logo, it is the first point of contact between you and the outside world.
So apparently what someone thinks of the name is very important and crucial for business success regardless of the product or service.

Yeah fair enough but I note the definitive word in the statement is "can" - "a well chosen name CAN make a company iconic...." not will, must, inevitably, invariably, with certainty etc.

I'd suggest a clever campaign for brand awareness can overcome the name if it needs to be overcome - as long as people are aware it's an option the punters will do the rest via the internet looking for the best $$ value.

I still don't know the market they'd be looking for that can't/won't be covered by the incumbents, maybe my lack of imagination.

Apparently 4 a/c already sourced and in the final stages of the AOC process with CASA.

As a friend said - if something like this were true one of the best kept aviation secrets for a long, long time.

In ignorance I thought you'd need a nominated management team to prepare the AOC for CASA or can this be contracted out as a paperwork exercise?

Maybe the Bonza team are that naive that they think merely presenting the paperwork to CASA can be interpreted as the AOC being in the final stages with CASA.

It took Tiger 10 months with CASA to get it going. Tiger had an advantage of a well established Singapore operation in which CASA was able to visit and go over that operation. Also had staff come down from that operation to setup this one. Staff also underwent training in Singapore before the Australia offshoot started. With that came the all important green light on it’s proving flight, the first major operator to achieve this on the first attempt.

I’d be looking at 12 months, minimum. They might even pull the plug if CASA makes things too hard, asks too many questions, and with that comes time, and millions being burnt. It won’t be a walk in the park. Expect months of silence next year as ‘discussions’ continue with the safety authority.

They might be able to get it up and running for when Western Sydney opens.

Were you watching Gruen last week? How can T-shirt Todd remain on the board of Qantas after this effort!!

ABC - Grouse Gruen play from about the 18:30 mark.

Thanks for the clip C441 and no I didn't watch it. Grouse has been a word that is particular to Victorians I have found and from all socio economic backgrounds. A good way to spot the Victorian in any crowd is use of the word grouse and pronouncing their E's as A's. such as talivision and Malbourne. When they relax they might even dust off the vinyl and play a record elbum.

Tiger,10 months to AOC

I think VB took 8-9 months without the Tiger "advantages." Who is going to provide maintenance for the MAX? An oft forgotten but nevertheless important component of an AOC. Cheers!

Bonza, and some folk thought Virgin was a dumb name for an airline.
Yet to nominate where their Head Office will be, and are their pilots, if they have any yet, up to speed on the Max 8 quirks.
Oh well, best of luck to them.

Like the way to spot someone from Sydney is how their voice goes up an octave at the end of every sentence. "I went to the shop the other dayeee"

Or QLD, "Goin to the shop, hey"

Or WA, if you can find one who can speak, the tone of the grunt. LOL

There are plenty of people in Newcastle UK who would tell people from Sydney that it's pronounced "New-cassell" not "New- CARRRSELL"

They didn’t nail the all important proving flight however.

Bonzo will need a Head of Flight Operations before CASA will start anything. A CEO and CFO isn’t going to get the ball rolling too far with Canberra.

Virgin seem to be sending all the heavy work to Hong Kong. Probably no different here. Manila might be able to do it cheaper. Considering some of the stuff I’ve seen return out of those places, I highly doubt CASA gives offshore maintenance much time in any overall AOC decision making. Engineering quality has being going by the wayside for yonks now.

Galdian, most definitely not. They will need a HOFO, HOTAC and a HOS (Head of safety) Head of Maintenance, as well as the AOC accountable person (normally the CEO). As well as a truckload of paperwork.

So having only just advertised for a HOFO on linkedin it would be fair to say they haven't the management team required to deal with CASA.

Agent 86 stated earlier they had - apparently - sourced 4 aircraft and in the final stages of AOC process with CASA.

CASA must have softened up big time the last couple of years!

Poppa Joe, can't disagree with your observation re engineering standards. However apparently these are new aircraft so heavy maintenance will be some way off. They are still going to require line maintenance support and given the stated position of servicing secondary airport destinations I would suggest that there is a reasonable probability of some long delays. Even with a comprehensive MEL. Not a good thing for a start-up. CASA will require a maintenance contract with an MRO as part of the AOC process. There aren't too many independent MRO's (if any) with the MAX on their Certificate. VT, Hawkers maybe? Neither would come cheaply and VT is really a subsidiary of Bains Baby. Adding a type to a Certificate still requires time and money. Interesting times! Cheers!

Generally you can have people or a person who knows what they're doing prepare the paperwork, manuals, etc. based on what the airline wants to do, there is a CASA Form that allows an applicant to assign a person or person(s) or a company 'power of attorney' so they do all the dealings with CASA and the management team are usually interviewed toward the end of the process.

Thanks AP for the info but what you are describing still sounds like the start of the AOC process and not the final stages as was suggested.

Yes, absolutely. Ideally, they'd have a HOFO, etc. in mind who would be 'directing' the building of the operations manuals anyway, so you'd expect them to be at interview stage for the CEO, HOFO and SM if they are that far down the track but if they're just advertising, well, that's a long way off being 'almost complete'.

I was just really saying that if it's a pretty straight-forward CASR Part 121 operation, 'most' of the documentation could be done in advance but it is a strange way to do it without at least one member of flight ops 'key personnel' tapped.
