Airline Privatisation
Now that the era (40 years) of visitors self enriching on the fat of former public companies like Qantas and BA is coming to a close, perhaps it’s time to reflect on whether taxpayer money will be used to bail them out in the current circumstances.
If taxpayer money is used, it won’t be to bailout the Airlines but to save the employees (in NZ anyway).
Air NZ and QF both have money in the Bank... not necessarily the case for their employees however who can be offered LWOP or face being laid off.
The NZ Government is putting together a massive fund to help save jobs and businesses survive the coming months.

Agree that QF and NZ are in a pretty good position to weather this, although I think doomsayers suggesting it'll go on for years are over the top. This virus will peak in the next few months and I'd expect things will be back to normal or on their way to normal by Xmas.
Saving the jobs is critical and offering reasonable support to do so... if the government does not do this, it won't matter who's leading the ALP at the next election, it could be George Pell and they'd still get elected if people perceive a national crisis emerged and the LNP did nothing.
What does annoy me is the news that these feeding chooks (with the brains of fleas) on the stock market see travel banned on the Atlantic and immediately QAN and VAH shares drop because of 'fears' by these idiots... neither of these carriers have exposure to that market so once again, the stockmarket is just a giant confidence trick.

If the Govt doesn't bailout multiple industries including the Airline Industry then we will end up with no employers as the virus effects diminish. If all the industries collapse then expect that the banks go too.If the market runs the economy then the only people with money will have it under their bed and even they cant spend more that $10,000 under the new laws.
Read up on the Federation drought and the Spanish Flu which destroyed us for about 25 years.
