Forever quarantined

Even if the HK government finally comes to its senses and decide to scrap quarantine, mask and compulsory testing....nothing will change for the pilots.

Tourists, bankers and so on are vital for the city. But why would they change the rules for us? We are a minority and could keep working in those conditions forever. If things get better, other airlines will replace us even if we leave.

So, for those hesitating and hoping to see HK opening, well, tough luck, because even if it opens, we will still have to quarantine, be tested all the time and most of all, be quarantined in every hotel overseas. To me, being able to visit places is kind of part of the perks in this job, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen before 4 to 5 years, which is a big part of my career. So what's left of it? After 5 years it'll be 7 years of doing a job in bad conditions, not being able to upgrade because everything is frozen, having to do compulsory jabs of a vaccine that doesn't work and seeing pilots from other countries enjoying normality.... This is utter lunacy.

I know that most people 'cannot' leave, but it's not only about leaving, it's about changing job.

Get out if you can. HK is a dystopian nightmare. With an even more hard core individual now in charge.
Once you get over the initial shock of leaving, shake off the Stockholm syndrome, you’ll see that the rest of the world are cracking on with their lives. Heck I’ve even caught covid. Can’t say it’s something I’m keen to repeat, however thanks to 3 x vacc I’ve had worse doses of the flu.
You won’t look back. Literally and figuratively. I haven’t, and although I miss the job I don’t miss the crap that came with it latterly. The HK Gov, under the guise and pretence of being independent, and it has to be said CX management in their ever increasing attempts to roll over, have destroyed one of THE jobs in Asia, and arguably turned one of the best places to live in the Far East in to a concentration camp.

Funny you mention that, they actually got better.

They’re still a travesty compared to anywhere else. Doom party or no.

Better when still locking down apartments and restaurants, sending patrons for mandatory testing and then shipped away if positive all over a handful of cases- sounds like a big improvement! 😂

Things get "better" in HKG only because the so called 5th wave is over, restrictions will come back for the 6th and so on....as for overseas hotel, quarantine will stay forever.

This painful restriction will probably remain as long as passengers have to quarantine upon entering HK. The moment quarantine for negative/vaccinated pax is lifted, we should be allowed out again on layovers. That day can’t come too soon for me.

Government will never let go of the quarantine hotels and the correctional facilities for a very long time. Probably its a good business venture to start than being a pilot.. start a chain of quarantine hotels.around hong kong.. guaranteed occupancy, provide good price and good serivce.. compared with rif raf quarantine hotel now.
