Pensions Triple Lock
So the Triple Lock pension rise is to be restored, giving us old folk around +10% from next April.
Heartening to read the following on the BBC website:
Economist and Labour adviser Jim O'Neill said the "constant protection of pensioners" was "ludicrous".

True, I will benefit...cue "loads a money ! "...but, not really because by the time this comes into effect next April, inflation will have ensured there's very little difference in disposable income.
This gesture is just another Boris distraction / bribe offering...will come in useful as another electioneering slogan. And please remember, not every pensioner getting state pension will benefit...those born prior to the date change of the "old" pension are already behind in income and those whose retirement age has been kindly increased, not forgetting the travesty of women's payment age increases, won't benefit much either.

SWMBO and I are both pensionners. When we heard of the big rise next year, we both thought it was great. But thinking about it, we could do OK with less. However, my older brother's work pension was stolen from him by his employer. He needs the increase.

I'm a UK pensioner having worked from the age of 18 until retirement at age 60. Although for part of that time I was "contracted out" I still have maximum contributions over and above the the threshold number of years and I'm on the "new deal" which came in a few years ago. (although that meant I couldn't claim until age 66).
For this I receive £787.40 every 28 days or £10,236.20 per year - no tax or social tax taken off that amount.
I have no idea how pensioners without other income can get by on that..............

As the 'Commentariat' would say - "Let's unpick that" ...
Not effective until next April, so no immediate cost,
Some worrying by-elections coming up, and pensioners are the most likely to vote and least likely to vote Left wing.
Timing, in politics, is everything ...
Cynical ? moi ?

On the subject of pensions, I wonder if the CAA are looking at increasing the pilot mandatory retirement age to be kept inline with the new increased ages for state pensions as justified by the government due to older poelpe being healthier, still obviously able to work and generally living longer?

How it can be possibly viewed as fair or equable that pensioners can get a 10% increase yet people who are working, and essentially paying for pensioners are somehow not worthy of 5%, let alone 10% is difficult to fathom. And I say that as someone who has retired and will begin enjoying the wonderful UK state pension from later this year, so would benefit from it.
Either neither pensioners nor working people are worthy of inflation matching increases, or both are. The government needs to make up its mind, and stop doing exactly as @Cornish Jack has said:-
I just wish younger people would realise that its only by voting (doesn't matter which way) they get the attention of governments, and society becomes less skewed towards one pressure group or the other.

You can print out (expand all the sections) your lifetime NI contribution record (amount per year, year by year) on the GOV.UK site, Any decent accountants should be able to check the calculation and advise you from there.

If it were thus.
I'm taxed at source in the U.K. by a system that has unilaterally frozen my rights for a pension increasefor years despite my still paying U.k taxes at source.
I cannot now even vote in my constituency,
Super
and you wonder why Idon't come'home'"

Would that it were thus. !
The 'younger people' are just as able as their elders to realise the deficiencies of the 'System'. Just voting is yet another 'postcode lottery'. If you happen to live or have a vote in marginal or swing constituencies, voting makes sense. Otherwise, the only way you can make a difference is by some form of 'tactical voting' .- and that takes organisation. The major Parties will ensure, as far as they are able. that any such action is minimised.

I live abroad and am also unable to vote, but think this is completely in order. The number of things that will affect me will be very small, and I don't therefore think a vote equal to that of full-time citizens is equitable.

However, allow the educated and worldly wise 16 year olds that populate the south of Glasgow sink estates to vote and things look better for the nationalists.
Horror.

Oh dear ! The inter-galactic warp has burped yet another classic of other-worldly philosophy !
In that area of the Universe, intelligence is, apparently, directly attributable to age and place of residence. The Earthly principle, (whereby one can make a reasoned distinction between, say, a self-obsessed Lying Buffoon and a teen-aged gtrl with an obsession with climate change (and a quite remarkable effort to support her belief )), takes its value from commonsense rather than prejudice.
