I personally find the way of capturing the G/S from above in Airbus FBW too fiddly, (and prone to error in the heat of the moment), and if it happens to me I prefer to just take out the A/P, ignore...

I don’t think 0000 was set in the window. It seems 4000 was set after the FD was switched on, which left toga/alt on the PFD. There’s a video out there somewhere which shows how the mistake can be...
