They won’t regret it because everyone has them. If there’s not an alternative then it’s not an issue. Unless you plan to drive to Greece or Spain. No airline is going to go for heavier or bulkier...

There is no need for it to be done at check in. BA and most airlines allow you to submit that info in advance - either using VeriFLY or their website.

We used VeriFLY when flying to LHR last month...
