A good point, I agree. Not sure how to square the right to self determination with Russian anxiety of history. Ukraine is the 'land-sea' though, that has to be crossed to get to Moscow. And whose...

A colleague, who had grown up and been educated (very well as a PhD scientist) in E Germany, told me Russia viewed Ukrsine and many former satellites as a buffer against invasion (by Germany)....
