A small shaped charge can punch a hole into the wing with ease I would have thought although perhaps detonation...

During the Battle of the River Plate two blue practice rounds were fired at the Scharnhorst. They came up on the hoist and so had to be got rid of. Being solid rounds they did quite a bit of damage....
