Voyager capability/availability.
Given the well publicised rescue flights by a Spanish 744 on behalf of the U.K. government does the Voyager fleet have the capability to mount such short notice flights at time of National need? Regards Stampe.
depends if you want to have to quarantine the aircraft for a week or so after the flight I guess.............
also depends whether that the Chinse authorities will allow a military aircraft in their airspace. AFAIK, that was a LIMFAC for both the Aussies and Kiwis.

Thank you gentleman for the prompt replies.That all makes sense as to why military assets were not suitable for the task.What a complex world we live in ! Wamos certainly came out well they have gone from being an unknown operator in the UK to having had huge media exposure. Regards Stampe.
It's not the case that military assets were not suitable, just that civilian assets were entirely suitable for a completely civilian task. If, for whatever reason, civ air was not viable then and only then would you consider taking an expensive and scarce military asset and winging it across most of the planet. No doubt dipclr issues would have been raised but 'STATE' & 'HOSP' tend to break through the noise.
Not withstanding all the other comments the RAF or for that matter RAAF A330/KC-30 crewing and availability is the issue given the small numbers of aircraft available. The US military use lots of civil contractors to move military in and out of Australia eg. Qantas B747 has done our CV19 bidding and very well too.

TW50-The Voyagers are never on the civil register . Those ac are A330 demilitarized ac as part of the 3PR deal of the PFI. The cost of said ac when used in that scenario has F All l to do with the PFI hour rate-it is a commercial decision made by the organization if they bid for the task.
