Dodgey deals

Seen the news? We taxpayers have been royaly fleeced again, as the rich get richer and backroom deals are done.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-...ffice/12686208

Scuttlebutt is, that the sellers had made some sizeable political donations earlier, to the right parties.
And shazam, just like that, the land value rockets up for the "valuation".

Ever heard of geting three quotes?

Unfortunately you won't get many here who with agree with you as the deal was done by an LNP government.

What happened to castle style forced acquisitions?

If you’re an inner west homeowner you get no say and below market rates but if you’re billionaire farmers you can hold out until the government gives you 10x.

I’ve seen their very shiny new King Air around, must’ve splurged after a rort well done.

The site was officially designated by our Federal Government on 15 April 2014. YEARS in advance of the property deal. The old adage stands that something is only worth whatever someone wants to pay for it. In this case a rounding error on what this gigantic black hole of spending will entail. Now if only the Government process quietly bought up the land at 'market value' and then designated the site. But my the outrage if that was the case.

Badgerys Creek was identified as a possible site as early as 1969. For the history see here: https://web.archive.org/web/20120128...04/04chr02.htm

Hopefully they will not sell that parcel of land at a loss as did the Govt in Qld did in the Mary Valley.

The last of the 464 properties bought by the Queensland Government for the failed Traveston dam project near Gympie are back in private hands, but the Government has been left with a $250 million shortfall.

Better still - after selling the property and trousering all that money, they didn't even have to move out of home or relocate their dairy business. They simply leased it all back from their friendly and accommodating buyer.
I have always wondered how onerous the leasing deal was!

They probably charged we taxpayers for the hazard reduction, keeping the grass cut, and other maintenance incidentals.

And the ‘wheeling and dealing’ for the land sale and purchase price commenced in early 2017 and I wonder who was the Secretary of the Department of Infrastructure and Transport at that particular time? He had been in that role for 8 years before being moved into a different department later in 2017 (coincidence he was moved on?) until he got boned by Morrison in December 2019. They called him ‘Mr Aviation’. He also allowed some interesting developments to occur on land around Bankstown and Essendon too, Mr M.M
